March 2nd - Wednesday in Wanaka

It was a gorgeous 2 hour drive back into Queenstown from Te Anau.  I am always amazed at how the scenery looks so different when driving the same road, but the opposite direction.   Dennis was quite happy to stop at his favorite grocery store in Queenstown again to get our stocks for the next few days.

We decided to take the scenic route from Queenstown, over the Lindis Pass, which then dropped down to Wanaka.

The drive was beautiful, but we were more than pleased with our stop for the night in Wanaka.  What a view from our balcony of Lake Wanaka.  Para-sailing, skiing, wake boarding ... and look at those boats!

Who needs a restaurant when we have this?

We did decide to venture out to our FIRST WINERY of the trip - Rippon Vineyard.  Established in 1974, they do "biodynamics" when producing their grapes, and actually harvest based on the stages of the moon!  I loved their very natural way of making their wine, and their location was gorgeous.  Too bad we weren't enamored with the wine itself.

As the sun started to set over the mountains, Dennis grilled up some yummy lamb with rosemary and spice sausages.

The best restaurant in town!

Good night and sweet dreams from Wanaka
