Sunday, Mar 6th .... on the coast in Kaikoura

We were happy to leave Christchurch yesterday without experiencing an earthquake.

Tony and Carrie had the time to visit downtown and they said the damage was quite sad.  5 years later and there is still political BS about how to rebuild. I'm glad I didn't see it.  Tony posted some pics on his Facebook page if you want to see.

Because of the damage there are many detours in town.  Dennis and Tony had their own adventure trying to find the house in our 2nd rental car of the trip.  Meanwhile, Carrie and I prepped breakfast ...

Is 9AM too early for a glass of wine?
Delish breakfast in the sun

We hit the road around 10:30 and made a stop at The Waipara Wine and Food Festival.  To our surprise the entry fee did NOT include the wine or food!  And it was HOT.  So we enjoyed a few tastes of wine and watched the people ...

These guys are enjoying their wine!

Paella!  We wanted some of this but the line to buy was L O N G!

It was then just another hour and a half drive north to our two night stay in Kaikoura.

GREAT LOCATION by the ocean!
The Seaview Motel .... we were a little dubious at first, but our 2 bedroom apartment on the right is great.  Especially with the sunroom.

Carrie and Diana loving the view of the Pacific Ocean
We could hear the waves at night

Room with a view ...

Are we REALLY here?  CHEERS!

It was such a lovely afternoon that we decided to simply move some furniture and chill ...

After the peaceful sunset, we returned to our Seaview Motel apartment for dinner and wine.  Perfect!
